DAY 2 (DEC. 18. 09) -MICROSOFT NGO CONNECTION DAY
Related to country: Nigeria

Brainstorming sessions on-going among couple of NGOs in Nigeria on using ICT to solve quite a number of problems especially access of ICT in rural areas -LLP makes it the bomb.

Today, Dr. Jummai Umar-Ajijola, Citizenship Lead (Anglophone West Africa), Microsoft & the General Manager, Microsoft Anglofone West Africa took the discussion to another level as they revealsed more
opportunities and products Microsoft makes available to NGOs. In his words the General Manager said "internet access should be a fundamental human right. We must realise that most people today who do
not have access to the internet to share information can really add value".

On Piracy, he summarizes "Piracy kills innovation" and anything you see is wrong in Nigeria in the area of ICT can be correct by

A participant, Rotimi Olawale discussed that to gain more accessibility, Microsoft should at least make prices of products affordable or the issue of piracy would still persist as most people would instead of spending more money to buy one cost product, would rather get pirated copies at lower prices though, they don't last.

Prof. A. Nzeako stressed that in eliminating piracy, its more better for microsoft to partner with the masses, who are the ones thought to involved in piracy) to really highlight the effects of negative effect
of cybercrime and mostly look at prices slashes and training of manpower. He also mentioned the issue of alternative power source for powering laptops since power is a major problems in making ICT impacts
real. In conclusion he stated "IT is super-non to air, since one cannot survive without air".
